What am I even doing here?

First things first: I don’t technically have insomnia. It’s not that I can’t fall asleep. it’s that I just can’t stay asleep. I wake up every hour. My shoulder hurts, my arm goes numb, my lower back is on fire. Basically, my nights are one long toss-and-turn session.

And the data backs me up: my Whoop keeps telling me I barely get any deep sleep. On the rare nights I manage more than an hour, it feels like I’ve just won a gold medal.

Here’s the math that really hit me: the average person lives about 79 years, and about 31.6% of that is spent sleeping. I’m 47 (48 in just a few days), which means if I’m lucky and stick to the average, I’ve got about 31 years left. Out of those, nearly 10 years will be spent in bed.

So here’s my plan: I started this blog to track my sleep journey. If I’m going to spend 10 years of my life sleeping, I want them to be the best 10 years possible.

Let’s do it.
